Rest assured that while it has been 2 months since my last posting many wonderful blogs await you… where did I leave off? Oh yes…
Bobby and I were sailing smoothly; we had a lot of fun together and seemed to click pretty nicely. There were, as always, some oddities that raised my eyebrows every once in a while, but wasn’t a total freak show and that was a step in the right direction given my experiences. Still, a lot of compromise comes into the mix, and it’s difficult to know where to stop. Because, there’s only a compromise when both parties have to surrender something, right? So why does it always feel like I’m the one to always be looking the other way or pretending to just brush some of his bad behavior under the rug? It makes no real sense, but I do it. We all do it; I’m forced to question the motivation behind that. Where did we get the idea that we must change ourselves “just a little” to make a man happy but accept him the way he is? It’s madness. Maybe it’s the self doubt that if we women stay too rigid or set our expectations too high we are plaguing ourselves to lives of solitude. Do we keep pretending not to see something in hopes of seeing a future?
Kristen was experiencing one of the female world’s worst nightmares… weeks passed since Steve’s advice that Kristen take matters into her own hands and make the first move. Again, Dick seemed to really enjoy Kristen. He made regular plans with her and they had fun dates that lasted all night. He talked about her meeting his friends and group dates and all that jazz. But when Kristen went in for the kill, nothing happened. Mind you, I grew up with many guy friends. Never in my life have I heard of a guy who, once given the green light, put up his own flashing red one to a girl with whom he continually initiated plans. So, of course this was bizarre and upsetting. It even left Steve a bit suspect. That week at dinner we consulted and he seemed to have some theories but still wanted to give some hope and give Dick some benefit of the doubt. Given that Kristen and Dick had plans for the coming weekend (he made plans for them to enjoy a whale watch and then bring her to a barbecue to meet all of his friends), it seemed worthwhile that Kristen simply broach the subject with Dick directly instead of playing this one-sided game of confusion. So after another night of rejecting the physical, Kristen and Dick went on their whale watch. As every with whale watch that I’d ever been on, they had a great time. After the whale watch, they planned on going home, freshening up and meeting back up to take off for the barbecue. Kristen went home to get ready. She never heard from Dick again. Yes. True story.
Upon review with Steve, he shared his true thoughts. Considering the circumstances and all the refusal of affection and the sudden disappearance… What has been Dick’s problem from day one? He wished Kristen had one. And that is a true story.
